How to set a trustline on XRPL (step by step)
How to add a trustline for an XRPL token in Xaman or another wallet, what the 0.2 XRP reserve means, and how to remove it safely.
Before an XRPL account can hold an issued token, it must create a trustline — a ledger object saying “I accept up to N of token X from issuer Y.” It is a protection: nobody can airdrop you a token you did not opt into.
Steps (Xaman wallet)
- Find the token's issuer address and currency code from a trusted source (the project's official site/xrp-ledger.toml, or the issuer link on our tables).
- In Xaman, open Add asset / Add token, or open a trustline deep-link / QR from the project, and check the issuer matches.
- Review and sign the
TrustSettransaction. - Each trustline adds an owner reserve to your account (currently 0.2 XRP), locked while the trustline exists.
Removing a trustline
Sell or send your full balance back to zero, then set the limit to 0 (Xaman: “Remove asset”). The reserve is released.
Safety tips
- Never sign trustlines from random DMs or airdrop sites.
- Scam tokens copy tickers of popular coins — always compare the issuer address.
- Signing a TrustSet cannot move your XRP, but other transaction types in the same flow can — read what you sign.
