What are XRPL meme coins?
A plain-English guide to meme coins on the XRP Ledger: how they are issued, traded on the native DEX and AMM, and why they are so volatile.
XRPL meme coins are issued tokens on the XRP Ledger. Unlike Ethereum, the XRPL has no smart-contract token standard: any account (the issuer) can create a token simply by sending it to accounts that have opened a trustline to it. A token is identified by its currency code + issuer address — two tokens with the same ticker from different issuers are completely different assets.
How they trade
- Native DEX – the XRPL has a built-in order book exchange.
- AMM pools – since the XLS-30 amendment, tokens can have automated market maker pools paired with XRP.
- Launchpads & front-ends such as First Ledger, xpmarket, Magnetic and Sologenic make launching and buying easy — which also makes low-effort launches common.
Why they are risky
Most meme coins have no utility, tiny liquidity and concentrated holders. Prices can move 50%+ in hours. See our rug-pull red flags checklist before buying anything.
How to check a token
- Verify the issuer address (not just the ticker) on XRPScan.
- Check if the issuer is blackholed (master key disabled, no regular key) so no more supply can be minted.
- Look at liquidity and holder distribution on DexScreener or XRPL Meta.
